Born Rene Boy Facunla, Ate Glow knew that she wasn’t a straight boy at a young age – even if her dad was a policeman. Speaking to GMA News TV’s “Tunay na Buhay,” Ate Glow said, “Alam ko na hindi ako straight na lalaki. So, nung mga time na ‘yon alam ko na iba ang mga hilig ko. But I wasn’t the typical gay ha, na mahilig maglaro ng barbie, hindi.”
Back in the early 2000’s, the local showbiz industry was rocked by one comedian brave enough to impersonate former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA). From the overall appearance down to miniscule mannerisms, it’s no doubt that Ate Glow did her extensive research on the lady politician.
She underscored her parents’ support and love, vital to her self-confidence as a transsexual woman.
“My sexuality was never an issue. Kaya siguro ganito ‘rin ang nangyari sa’kin I have the sense of self-confidence kasi nga my parents provided me all the love and care I needed in this world,” Ate Glow explained.
Just like the former President who she impersonates, Ate Glow was a self-confessed achiever in school, eagerly participating in extra-curricular activities. But it was in college – at the University of the Philippines – that she learned more about herself.
